BILINGUAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT (MA)

Shehata Medical Clinic is seeking an energetic Medical Assistant with 1-2 years experience in Family Practice or Primary Care to join our team.  We are located just outside the Medical Center at 7015 Almeda Rd, Houston, Texas  77054.   Applicant must be able to speak, read and write both English and Spanish.  

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Medical Assistant functions under the direction and supervision of the Office Manager, providing safe and effective patient care. The Medical Assistant helps patients  by greeting and helping them; scheduling appointments; maintaining records and accounts, and providing information, services and assistance. The Medical Assistant has direct responsibility to ensure that all care performed and tasks delegated are provided in accordance with this clinic's policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations.

REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

  • Applies planning, implementation and intervention to meet individual patient and facility needs. Follows all patient specific and facility level policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.

  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays.

  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area.

  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.

  • Maintains patient accounts and obtains revenue by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Saves physician/nurse practitioner's time by helping with office procedures
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential
  • Schedules lab tests in accordance with lab tech presence at the facility
  • Complete insurance prior authorizations for patient visits and procedures.
  • Performs all Medical Assistant duties for clinic when needed.
  • Process medical record requests
  • Maintains training on computer systems, EMRs and other office software/hardware.  
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel to the office.

 

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 
  • Registered/Certified Medical Assistant preferred
  • Current CPR certificate. 
  • At least 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant in a doctor's office

  • Strong clinical and leadership skills
  • Ability to organize and establish priorities to perform assigned duties in an effective and  efficient manner
  • Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English & Spanish
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to use reasonable care in carrying out verbal and written instruction.
